About Forest School Canada
Forest School Canada is a national education initiative that strives to connect all children to nature within their educational settings through increased access to Forest School in early, primary and secondary years. FSC strives to become a stand alone not-for-profit organization in upcoming months.
Mission
That all Canadian children have the opportunity to play and learn in local forests, creeks, meadows, prairie grass, mountains, and shorelines with a wise and skilled educator who understands the power of child-directed learning and how this can contribute to a more sustainable world.
Description
Forest School is an educational approach that fosters a connection to, and knowledge of, the natural world through repeated, regular access to local woodland areas, parks and outdoor classrooms through the lens of play-based and child-directed learning.
The priorities of Forest School Canada include the establishment and delivery of 'Forest School' continuing education programs, policy development, and research dissemination. Additionally, we are working towards a national 'Centre of Excellence' in Canada's capital which will host a variety of Forest School programs.
Forest School Canada works collaboratively with several key stakeholders to enhance opportunities for Forest School in a variety of settings, and to support the development of National Standards of Best Practice for Forest School practitioners and trainers. We strive to be the leading, national voice for Forest Schools in Canada.
